Independence Day

The Continental Congress voted to declare independence from Great Britain in 1776, on July 2. John Adams predicted that that date would become a famous American holiday.

Of course, now we celebrate on July 4, when the final version of the Declaration of Independence was voted on and approved.

I learned this when I was a kid, from my World Book Encyclopedias. Don't have your copy anymore? Check my facts on Wikipedia.

What a great country! We have freedom from King George III, freedom to choose which coffee we like, and freedom to write whatever we want (or change someone else's writing) on Wikipedia.

Happy Independence Day!!
