Help! Can You Recommend Blogs for Homschoolers?

Here is a email I received recently from a reader:

I've recently started following your blog after reading and 100% agreeing with a comment you wrote on [another blog], and enjoy how balanced you are. It looks as though I will start home schooling in the fall. It wasn't my plan, but our local public school is pretty bad and we weren't chosen in the lottery for our local charter schools. Anyway, I'm trying to prepare myself and would like to start following some home school blogs, but am kind of turned off by the self-righteous "home school or the highway" mindset that so many seem to have. Do you know of any more balanced blogs that speak mostly about home schooling?

I actually have only semi-followed a couple of blogs by homeschoolers. Therefore, I need your help. If you know of any homeschool related blogs, please leave it in the comments. It may also help if you gave a short description of what kind of information and context is contained in it (Christian or secular, links to resources, personal stories, specific age group or curriculum, etc).

I (and other readers) thank you for your help!

  1. My preschool & elementary blog is at www.startwellhomeschool.blogspot.com. It is Christian and it is only about education and not lifestyle choices. I have been home schooling a houseful for about 20 years, about to graduate my fourth, fifth is in public high school, younger ones still home with me.

  2. I am a big fan of http://simplehomeschool.net/ as an all-encompassing encouraging homeschool blog. I love http://confessionsofahomeschooler.blogspot.com/ for creating a curriculum for my preschooler (her letter of the week stuff is awesome, and it's free to download) - she also has great ideas on organization and using a workbox system. Two other blogs I have enjoyed for both encouragement and good references are http://www.preschoolersandpeace.com/ (applicable for any age) and http://fivejs.com/ - lots of practical stuff and she always posts about great deals on curriculum. All these blogs often link to other places where I find great stuff as well. All are Christian-based.

  3. I love the blog, http://1plus1plus1equals1.blogspot.com . She has so many great ideas and you can join her members only group for about $10 and dowload curriculum for your younger ones. She also does some homeschool product reviews that I have found helpful.

  7. A friend just sent me this message:

I just found a site that has voting going on for the top 25 homeschooling blogs. So there are tons there right now, and by may 11th they will list the top 25. I don't know what will end up, but it would be a good jumping board for people to scan and see what might catch their eye for blogs to follow. Or wait til may and see which ones end up the top ones.
